Pianist Hakan Ekmen who has been evaluated by means of those words by the music authorities was born in Ankara, Turkey. He was introduced with music during his years of elementary school while he was going to TRT Children Choir. In 1979, he entered to Ankara State Conservatory and was the pupil of pianist Professor Mrs. Nimet Karatekin. He received positive reviews with his many recitals and concerts that he has given since 1980. He invited to "Young Performers Recital" organized in İstanbul within celebration events of 1985 Youth Year. That the artist who realized various recordings for TRT, (Turkish National Radio and Television Corporation) participated to the workshops and master classes of world-renowned pianists like Robert Roux, Leonid Brumberg, Peter Katin, Tatiana Pikeizen, Verda Erman, James Tocco.

In 1989, while he was graduating from university, he was School's and Piano Department's first prize winner and was honored  to "Science Encouragement Award of Hacettepe University" and "Outstanding Achievement Award by Prof. İhsan Doğramacı"

Between 1994-1996, he completed his Master Degree (MA) working with pianist  Mrs. Benal Tanrısever at Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts. In 1997, he was accepted to the doctoral program at the same department. Starting his working with pianist Dr. Mrs. Benal Tanrısever Şimşek, he accomplished the DMA degree under advising by pianist Professor Mr. Ersin Onay.

He has a wide repertoire which consists of the solo works and concertos from baroque, classical, romantic and impressionist period. The artist with the aim of recognizing and spreading of classical music, he wrote some articles in art magazines and his interviews were published. In addition, he produced and presented his own classical music program at a private radio station between 1993-1997.

Since 1990 working an academic staff at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, Hakan Ekmen also worked as a piano teacher at Gazi University between 2002-2006. He played his own compositions for classical ballet class at some ballet performance. Apart from his academic career like lectures, conferences, workshops, articles he has been continuing his domestic and international recitals and concerts.
