WELCOME TO FMF AND AUTOINFLAMMATION RESEARCH GROUP (FIRE)
Systemic Autoinflammatory Diseases (SAIDs) are caused by mutations in genes that encode interleukin 1 related proteins. Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is the most common autoinflammatory disease seen worldwide but is especially prevalent in Eastern Mediterranean countries including Turkey. Our group, named recently as FIRE group has been studying on SAIDs and mainly FMF for a long time. Group studies are divided into three main branches; genetic etiology of these diseases, inflammasome biology, and epigenetic mechanisms (mainly non-coding RNAs). Our side projects include a wide range of conditions where inflammation is a component in the disease progression such as Behçet’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.As a research group that mainly focuses on the molecular biology of autoinflammatory disorders, we believe that elucidation of the key mechanisms related to inflammation will lead to improved knowledge about numerous genetic autoinflammatory diseases.
