Prof. Dr. Ümit Yavuz Malkan was born in
Ankara in 1985. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education
at TED Ankara College. In 2008, he graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty
of Medicine. He completed his residency training in 2013 and became a
specialist in Internal Medicine. In 2014, he began his subspecialty training in
the Department of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine at Hacettepe
University Faculty of Medicine. In the same year, he was awarded the
"Young Researcher" award by the Turkish Society of Hematology. In
2015, he received the "TÜRKBA" award, also granted by the Turkish
Society of Hematology. As a result of his scientific research, Prof. Dr. Ümit
Yavuz Malkan was granted the Encouragement Award by the Hematological Oncology
Society in 2015. In 2017, he successfully completed his subspecialty training
in Hematology at Hacettepe University and became a Hematology Specialist.
In 2018, he completed the
"Multiple Myeloma Master Class" program organized by the Turkish
Society of Hematology. In the same year, he was awarded the academic title of
Associate Professor in the field of Hematology. In 2020, he received training
in hematologic malignancies and cellular therapies at Duke University,
Department of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapy, in North Carolina,
United States. As a result of his work there, he was given a reference letter
by Prof. Dr. Nelson Chao. In 2021, he was appointed as an Associate Professor
in the Department of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine, at Hacettepe
University Faculty of Medicine. In 2023, he earned a competency certificate in
the field of “Autologous and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation.” In 2025, he
was promoted to Professor in the field of Internal Medicine/Hematology at
Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.
Prof. Dr. Ümit Yavuz Malkan currently
serves as the Hematology Section Editor for the International Journal of
Hematology and Oncology. He has numerous scientific publications in national
and international peer-reviewed journals. His works have received hundreds of
citations in national and international indexes. He is a member of the Turkish
Society of Hematology and the European Hematology Association. He is also a
board member of the Society of Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation and the
Hematological Oncology Society. He currently continues his academic career as a
Professor in the Department of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine, at
Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.
