Abstract:The main purpose of the research was to examine the relations between mothers' beliefs about emotions, mother-child emotion talk and emotion regulation skills of children. Besides, the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the "Parents' Beliefs About Children's Emotions Questionnaire (PBACE)" was conducted. 250 mothers participated in the study of reliability and validity of the Turkish version. Besides, 50 mothers and their 4 to 6 years old children who attended a preschool -seperately from the reliability and validity study- participated in the study in which relations between mothers' beliefs about emotions, mother-child emotion talk and emotion regulation were examined. Most of the mothers participated in both parts of the study had at least graduate or undergraduate degree. In data collection process, "General Information Form" and "Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC)" were used. To examine emotion talk, the conversation between mother-child dyads was recorded during play task. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine whether factor structure of the scale was confirmed or not. Consequently, the seven structures of the original scale were confirmed. Recorded conversations were transcribed and evaluated by the researcher using content analysis in the analysis of mother-child emotion talk. Mann Whitney U Test, Spearman's correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used in the analysis of data. Results indicated that no significant effect of child gender and age on the number of both mothers' and children's emotion talk. But in the content analysis it was found that daughters' emotion talk consisted of more and various emotion/emotion behaviours than boys. Also, there was positive significiant relation between mother and child emotion talk. There was positive significiant relation between the autonomy and parental knowledge subscales of the PBACE and child emotion talk. There was positive significiant relation between mothers' beliefs about childrens emotions and children's emotion regulation skills. Finally, There was no significiant relation between children's emotion regulation skills and mother-child emotion talk.
