Abstract

In this study, aimed to evaluate the contributions of the Erasmus Programme on Hacettepe University Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department students who continue their education abroad for one or two semester. This contribution searched with two different perspective which are daily life and academic life experiences they had in the countries and the universities they visited. In line with this purpose, the opinions of the design students of Hacettepe University Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department, who participated in the Erasmus Programme between 2005 and 2015 were evaluated. For the study, open-ended questions were asked to the thirty students. According to the results, it has been observed that students' cross-cultural consciousness, language skills and self-esteem are increased with the aim of the Erasmus Programme. Besides increased language skills, students noted that learning by experiences of architectural characterics of different cultures are also very important and effects professional success. As a result, the Erasmus Programme has shown significant positive contributions to both the individual development of the design students and the design education they have received.
