Turkish Education System Problems: A Meta-Synthesis Study

Özet

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the articles examining the problems of the Turkish Education System. The study, in which a section of the findings obtained in the qualitative research articles on the problems of the Turkish Education System is presented, is qualitative research conducted with the meta-synthesis method. Researches to be included in the study are TR Dizin, ULAKBİM, ResearchGate, www.sciencegate.app/, https://scholar.google.com/, www.scopus.com/, https://eric.ed. gov/, https://atif.sobiad.com/, Web of Science (SSCI, ESCI) databases. Empirical research articles that were made with the qualitative research method and published in the last 10 years (2010-2021) were selected and determined. The data obtained by examining the determined 30 articles were analyzed by thematic synthesis technique. At the end of the study, it has been determined that issues of Turkish Education System can be addressed in eight themes, namely, “System and Structural Problems", "Problems Regarding Teachers/Teaching Profession", "Problems Regarding Physical Structure and Educational Materials", "Problems Regarding Teaching Programs", "Problems Regarding Students", "Problems Regarding Educational Administration/Administrators", "Parents Related Problems" and "Problems Related to Education Financing ". It has been determined that the problems encountered in the Turkish Education System mostly concern systemic and structural problems. It is recommended that the results of the study should be evaluated by policy makers and education administrators, not ignored during the structuring process of the education system, and be taken into consideration by researchers for future research.
