Özet

The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' opinions on the competency area of "school, parents, and society relations" and their self-evaluation in this competency area. Data were gathered from 124 social studies teachers. Main competencies and sub-competencies were tested by using hierarchical confirmatory factor analysis. The results indicated that social studies teachers regard "school, parent and society relations" as the most significant competency area following the competency area of "teaching-learning processes". The self-evaluation results revealed how competent teachers felt in a variety of competency areas. According,to these results, "school, parents, and society relations" competency area ranked third, and "curriculum and content knowledge" emerged as the area teachers felt least competent in.
