All rights reserved. The social license refers to the level of acceptance or approval of the company activities' by the local people, local authorities and stakeholders. Especially in the last decades, the idea of obtaining social license to operate in addition to the legal permits approved by the governing body has been accepted. This situation shows that it is not enough for companies to perform only legal procedures without having sufficient support from the stakeholders they interact directly or indirectly in the regions where they operate. In this study, the definition and history of social license to operate is explained and mining projects which emphasize the importance of social license in mining are mentioned. For worldwide examples academic studies are referred and for the domestic examples interviews with relevant units of the projects are carried out with the various companies. With these interviews, the social impact assessment processes and the situations are evaluated and as a suggestion, idea of adding social license as a course to the undergraduate mining engineering curriculum of universities is presented and a 12-week social license tentative course outline is prepared in detail. In this tentative course, participation of the mining sector components relevant to this concept is also planned.
