Abstract

The effects of inositol, D(+)-biotin, and thiamine on riboflavin production by Ashbya gossypii were investigated. Optimum initial growth factor concentrations were determined as 0.5 g l-1 meso-inositol, 0.4-mu-g l-1 D(+)-biotin, and 0.04 g l-1 thiamine. Riboflavin production was increased on addition of the sugar alcohol and two vitamins to a medium containing either glucose or whey as a substrate, but was decreased on addition of the growth factors to media supplemented with sunflower oil.
