Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’deki tıp fakültesi, öğrenci, öğretim üyesi ile ilgili sayıları belirlemektir. Yöntem: Bu çalışma tanımlayıcı tipte bir çalışmadır. Yükseköğretim Kurulu ve Ölçme Değerlendirme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi verileri web üzerinden derlendi. Bu veriler TTB Mezuniyet Öncesi Tıp Eğitimi 2010 Raporu ile karşılaştırılarak sunuldu. Bulgular: Türkiye’de 2022 yılında 118 tıp fakültesi 143 program bulunmaktadır. Tıp fakültelerinin 97’si devlet, 46’sı vakıf üniversitesi tıp fakültesidir. Türkiye'de 2022 yılında tıp fakültelerinde toplam öğrenci sayısı 112.058’dir. Öğretim üyesi sayısı 17.494’dür. Öğrenci öğretim üyesi oranı 6,4’dür. Öğrenci öğretim üyesi oranı 2022 yılında devlet tıp fakülteleri için 7,68, vakıf tıp fakülteleri için 4,28’dir. Tıp fakülteleri 61 ilde bulunmaktadır. İstanbul’da 6 devlet, 21 vakıf üniversitesi tıp fakültesi vardır. Sonuç: Mezuniyet öncesi tıp eğitimi yakından izlenmelidir. Fakülte, alınan öğrenci, mezun öğrenci, öğretim üyeleri sayılarının yanı sıra hangi verilerin izlenmesi gerektiği alanın sahipleri tarafından karar verilmelidir. Tıp eğitiminin her aşamasına, tıp eğitiminin “gerçek öznesi” öğrencilerin katılımı sağlanmalıdır. Öğrenci katılımı tıp eğitiminin niteliğinin artmasına önemli katkı sunacaktır.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the numbers of medical schools, students and faculty members in Turkey. Method: This study was a descriptive one. The data of the Council of Higher Education and the Student Selection and Placement Centre were compiled through the websites. These data were presented in comparison with the Turkish Medical Association Undergraduate Medical Education Report 2010. Findings: There were 118 medical schools and 143 programs in Turkey in 2022. Of the medical schools, 97 were public and 46 were private medical schools. The total number of students in medical schools in Turkey in 2022 is 112,058. The number of faculty members was 17,494. The student-to- faculty member ratio was 6,4. In 2022, the student- to-faculty member ratios for public medical schools and private medical schools were 7,68 and 4,28, respectively. The medical schools were located in 61 provinces. There were 6 public and 21 private university medical schools in Istanbul. Conclusion: Undergraduate medical education should be monitored closely. The data which should be monitored as well as the numbers of the schools, admitted students, graduates and faculty members must be decided by the owners of the field. The participation of students, the “rightful subject” of medical education, should be ensured at every stage of medical education. Student participation will significantly contribute to the improvement of the quality of medical education.
