The Effect of Teaching Practicum on Foreign Language Teacher Candidates' Non-Verbal Communication Use Level

Özet

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of 'Teaching Practice' course on foreign language teacher candidates' non-verbal communication use level. The study universe is composed of 27 foreign language teacher candidates who took 'Teaching Practice' course during 2011-2012 education year spring semester. The research is a single group based experimental study which makes use of pretest and posttest model. The data of the study has been determined by "Non-verbal Communication Observation Form" produced by the researchers. In addition, via video recording and observation technique, qualitative data has been gained. The data gained has been analyzed by Wilcoxon Marked Alignment Test and has been commented after it has been calculated in terms of its descriptive statistical value. The data obtained has shown that the scores between pretest and posttest do not exhibit a meaningful difference, so foreign language teacher candidates' Teaching Practice education do not affect their nonverbal communication use level. According to the data gained through descriptive research, it has been understood that foreign language teacher candidates need to be well informed on the use of non-verbal communication.
