Purpose: Environmental factors may affect the attention skills of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the attention skills of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia living in a nursing home and with their families. Material and Methods: A total of 20 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia registered at Nevşehir State Hospital Community Mental Health Center, living in a nursing home (n=10) and with their families (n=10) participated in the study. Sociodemographic Data Collection Form, Cancellation Test and Stroop Test TBAG form were used as data collection tools. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of the scores obtained from the Stroop Test TBAG form and Cancellation Test (p<0.05). Conclusion: The social environment influences the attention levels of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia living with their families compared to individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia living in a nursing home. Our finding supports the effect of different environmental stimuli on the attention skills of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. It is recommended that occupational therapists working with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia take this finding into consideration in their interventions aimed at cognitive skills.
Amaç: Çevresel faktörler şizofreni tanılı bireylerin dikkat becerileri üzerinde etkili olabilmektedir. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada bakımevinde ve ailesiyle yaşayan şizofreni tanılı bireylerin dikkat becerilerinin karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya Nevşehir Devlet Hastanesi Toplum Ruh Sağlığı Merkezi’ne kayıtlı, bakımevinde (n=10) ve ailesiyle (n=10) yaşayan toplam 20 şizofreni tanılı birey katıldı. Veri toplama aracı olarak Sosyodemografik Veri Toplama Formu, İşaretleme Testi ve Stroop Testi TBAG formu kullanıldı. Sonuçlar: İki grup arasında Stroop testi TBAG formu ve İşaretleme Testinden alınan puanlar açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılıklar görüldü (p<0,05). Tartışma: Ailesiyle birlikte yaşayan şizofreni tanılı bireylerin bakımevinde yaşayan şizofreni tanılı bireylere göre dikkat düzeylerinin iyi olması üzerinde sosyal çevrenin etkisi olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu bulgumuz farklı çevresel uyaranların şizofreni tanılı bireylerin dikkat becerileri üzerindeki etkisini desteklemektedir. Şizofreni tanılı bireylerle çalışan ergoterapistlerin bilişsel becerilere yönelik müdahalelerinde bu bulgumuzu göz önünde bulundurması önerilir.
