Özet

Formal education is the longest period in individuals' education process. The approaches of formal education institutions support individuals' gaining basic competencies to meet their information needs. As a significant and vital component of schools, school libraries with their activities increase the awareness levels of students and teachers with regard to information literacy. In this respect, the aim of this study is to analyze information literacy perceptions and activities of school libraries. According to this determined aim, the approaches, awareness, and perception levels with regard to information literacy in 18 schools have been evaluated via a web-based interview form to provide qualitative and quantitative data about the topic. The results show that there are differences among the analyzed schools in terms of information literacy activities and their frequency. The lack of information literacy courses in curricula, especially in the state schools analyzed, is also an important result pointed out in the study.
