Özet

This chapter discusses the most applicable methods for examining the carrier systems’ influence on cell viability, breaching tissue barriers, and intracellular delivery. Molecular and structural diversity amongst drug carriers provides immense opportunities in the search for the most efficacious system for targeting the cells that confine in different pathologies. Disruption of the plasma membrane is followed by irreversible cell death. Energy metabolism, which is essentially maintained by mitochondrial enzymes that use nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide as an electron donor, plays a key role in viability assays. Managing a large number of samples can be very time-consuming, and the extension of incubation periods in the presence of trypan blue leads to cytotoxicity. Biological barriers have been regarded as major obstacles for drug delivery. Drug absorption mechanisms involve complex and multistep processes. An efficient carrier enables the delivery of a drug into target tissues, and it promotes endocytosis or uptake by the cells.
