Özet

Considering the increasing the interest, motivation, and achievement levels in biology education are becoming more important day by day, education methods should be developed within the framework of rapid and constantly renewing technological developments (AYHAN, 2012). One of the most important problems encountered in biology is that the subjects remain abstract, their intelligibility is low and the learned subjects need to be repeated (TECIMER, 2018). In light of this, this study aims to examine prospective biology teachers' views on the use of educational videos in biology teaching. The study is in the case study pattern, one of the qualitative research methods (YILDIRIM & ŞIMŞEK, 2018). The study group consisted of 57 prospective biology teachers studying at a state university in Ankara. The data collected with a semi-structured interview form were subjected to descriptive and content analysis; To minimize the bias, the data set was analyzed by two researchers. According to the results, most of the prospective teachers stated that educational videos contributed to biology teaching and that they would benefit from educational videos in their teaching in the future. The codes derived from the opinions of prospective teachers on the use of educational videos in biology teaching were collected under the themes of "improving biology teaching with educational videos" and "material design in teaching biology with educational videos"; It has been observed that the views are concentrated on "relationships with daily life" and "supporting with visual materials (animation)". However, it is noteworthy that prospective teachers can mainly benefit from educational videos on human biology (systems), and that they have versatile views on material design with both teaching methods and educational videos, including many other biology topics. The results suggest that materials can be designed with educational videos on many biology subjects for more effective biology teaching and these materials should be used more frequently both in teacher training and in teaching biology to students in schools.
