Özet

Modem Turkey was established within the framework of a holistic design on the basis of Atatfirk's reforms. However, the presently ongoing debates still on the nature of Turkish modernization indicate that the obstacles of those days have not yet been solved. It seems that a variety of conducted analyses and evaluations, perhaps inevitably, are under the influence of individual political and ideological stances and positions. The modernization process of each country can only be understood in terms of its own conditions and in comparison with its contemporaries. In order to establish a framework for more comprehensive future studies, this paper attempts to provide an analytic evaluation of the Turkish modernization process by explaining and comparing its fundamental features to shed light on many other potential issues worth investigating.
