The International Conference for Autism, Baku, Azerbaijan, 23 - 25 April 2025, (Summary Text)
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) benefit from mainstreaming practices in general education settings, but research shows that teachers require in-class support to carry out this process successfully (Kurtkapan, 2023). One of the legally secured practices in our country to meet this need is to ensure that these children benefit from shadow education. Shadow education is provided by facilitators. For shadow education to yield effective results, it is essential that the teacher, peers, the child with ASD, and the facilitator all adapt to the classroom (Kurtkapan, 2023). From this point of view, in this study, it was aimed to realize the participation of the facilitator in the classroom for a 12-year-old child with ASD in a way to ensure the adaptation of all stakeholders and to examine the effects of the facilitator on all stakeholders. In line with this goal, a multi-stage process was followed, including interviews with the child's parents and teachers, classroom observations and the training of the facilitator. The data collection process regarding the effects of the intervention is still ongoing.
