Özet

This paper reviews the publication (articles, notes, book reviews, etc.) of Turkish social scientists as reported in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) by checking the authors' affiliation addresses to see if they included the word "Turkey". Altogether, a total of 887 publications were identified between 1985 and 1996. The number of publications in 1996 is 166, which constitutes 0.14% of the total number of publications in the world. Three fourths of the publications were of full-text articles. An overwhelming majority of the contributions (95%) were written in English. Most contributions (93%) came from researchers working at universities. Researchers affiliated with Middle East Technical, Bosporus and Bilkent Universities made more than half (%53) of all social science publications.
