The title of a work gives information on it in a direct or indirect way. In this article were studied the titles of 115 manuals of the French foreign language. The manuals in question were published in France between 1920 and 2007. Titles of manuals are grouped together in three classes : distribution of the titles according to the aimed public, grammatical and enonciative distribution, distribution of the contents. Except 24, the biggest majority of the manuals were published after 1980, according to the communicative approach. Most of the manuals are intended for the "adolescents and adults". With the communicative approach, the titles were reduced to one or two words. This is the name class that it most favorite in the titles. In the 20 last years, the titles of manuals refer to the communication and enunciation situation as well as to the interpersonal exchange.
