This study investigates the mechanical properties and wear behavior of SiC reinforced Al356 metal matrix (AlSiMg) composite materials produced by the method of powder metallurgy. Samples of composite material were obtained by adding SiC particles of different particle size (< 1, 10, 20 or 40 µm) and 10% by weight to the Al356 alloy. The procedures of 3D stirring, cold pressing (sintering) and hot extrusion were successively applied to obtain the composites and yielded good results. A CNC lathe and CNC milling machine were used in preparing the samples for the tensile test, transverse rupture test, V-notched stroke test and wear test. The homogenous distribution of SiC particles within the complex interface and matrix structure is a factor that contributes to the outcomes obtained. The state of the interface of the reinforcing element of the matrix material and the surfaces ruptured were examined by use of a scanning electron microscope.
