Özet

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is a group of immunologically mediated diffuse inflammatory lung parenchymal diseases. Pigeon breeder's disease (PBD) is the most frequent clinical form and is rarely encountered in children. The best diagnostic tool is historic correlation of the symptoms with exposure to antigen and demonstration of the characteristic precipitin reactions in the serum. The most effective treatment is avoidance of the antigens. Steroids may be used for treatment of HP either systemically or topically (inhalational). Here we report a child with PBD treated with inhalational steroid. Our case is the first child with PBD in the literature in which inhalational steroid was used as an initial treatment. With this report we remind physicions that the disease should be considered in any child with recurrent or unexplained respiratory symptoms and also emphasize that nebulizing steroids may be useful as an initial treatment of PBD and all other HPs.
