Özet

This paper defines the triaxial compression tests conducted to describe the behaviours of different reinforcement types and new fibre stabilisation techniques for a highway sub-base. In order to investigate the interactions between the reinforcement and sand particles, three fibre types and two different geotextile types were used as reinforcements in a comprehensive set of tests. Firstly, the sand soil was mixed with different types of fibres and the results were compared with an unreinforced condition. Then, as a new stabilisation technique, the configurations of the fibres in the soil were changed. One- (N = 1) and multi-reinforcement layers (N = 2 and 3) were used for each fibre type without increasing the amount of fibres. Additionally, the results for the fibre reinforcement specimens were discussed with different geotextile reinforced sand models. A secondary objective of the paper is to determine the influence of reinforcement variables and stabilisation technique on the failure patterns and other behaviours such as the brittleness index and modulus of elasticity. As a result, it was observed that the stabilisation technique and the reinforcement type have an important role in the composite behaviours. The formulas determined in this study have a good correlation between the mean and deviatoric stress behaviours in the experiment results.
