Özet

Around the world, numerous studies have focused on developing effective parenting interventions. However, most of these programs are developed and validated within WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) cultures. It is evident that parenting practices are profoundly shaped by the cultural context (Chen et al., 2019). Consequently, parenting interventions developed in WEIRD cultures may not be effective or applicable in different, non-WEIRD contexts. This highlights a significant need to understand the culturally specific needs and experiences of non-WEIRD populations. To address this gap, our study investigates the experiences, challenges, concerns, and coping mechanisms of parents in Türkiye, as one of a non-WEIRD culture. Specifically, based on the retrospective answers of parents, we aim to figure out “What factors could ease their parenting if they were given the opportunity to access to particular information, suggestions, techniques, or support before having their child”. We expect that outcomes of this study would provide insight about the first-time parents in Turkish culture; so it would be possible to develop a culturally sensitive parenting intervention that is called "Gün Doğumu".
