Geronggang (Cratoxylum arborescens) is one of the native species of peatlands that are distributed in several areas of Indonesia. Geronggang is a woody plant with considerable potential as an alternative raw material for the manufacture of dissolving pulp. In this study, the production of dissolving pulp was carried out by utilizing prehydrolysis (150 °C for 90 min), cooking (150 °C for 120 and 150 min), and 5-stage elemental chlorine-free bleaching (ECF: O-D0-Ep-D1-D2). A 7 L/kg liquor to solid ratio was used, and cooking with active alkali (AA) of 18, 20, 22, and 24% was applied. Kraft processes with and without soluble anthraquinone (SAQ: 0.1%) were compared. The best Kappa number obtained in unbleached pulp (13.68) was shown by the 150-minute cooking time and 24% AA using the kraft-SAQ method. After bleaching application with namely oxygen (O), chlorine dioxide (D0), extraction with peroxide (Ep), chlorine dioxide (D1), and chlorine dioxide (D2), dissolving pulp was produced with a brightness, viscosity, and alpha-cellulose of 91.25% ISO, 20.4 cP, and 94.19%, respectively.
