Since occupants with diverse characteristics are subjected to rear impact loading, adaptive car-seats are required that respond optimally to different occupants and crash pulses. For this purpose, computational multi-body models of a generic car seat and three different male occupants are developed to study different car-seat designs. Using the 50th-percentile male occupant model, two different anti-whiplash car-seat models are developed which are shown to mitigate whiplash successfully for the given range of crash severity. These two car-seat models are then subjected to the same crash pulse set by using the lighter and heavier male occupant models. One of the car-seat models performs better since it structurally adapts itself to both the weight of the occupant and the crash severity.
