The examination of the factors affecting the community integration among the elderly

Community integration is the opportunity to live in the community and be valued for one's uniqueness and abilities, like everyone else. For almost everyone especially elderly people, a sense of belonging and community integration are important for a full life. This study was planned to assess the factors that affect the community integration of the 65 age and over elderly. The sample of the study composed of 348 elderly that has been registered in Kurtuluş Health center in Ankara. Data collected for the study were analyzed through using a socio demographic information form, Community Integration Scale, Katz's Activities of Daily Living Index and Lawton and Brody's Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Index, Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale, Life Satisfaction Index, Quality of Life Index. Elderly individuals were 56.0% female and 56.6% of the elderly individuals had elementary school education and less. In this study, there was positive correlation among the quality of life, activities of daily living levels, life satisfaction of elderly individuals and their community integration level and negative correlation between the depression levels and community integration level. © Common Ground, Oya Hazer, Ayfer Aydiner Boylu, All Rights Reserved.
