Özet

The use of game elements in education has a positive effect on students' achievement, attitude and motivation. The player types of the students are needed to determine the game elements that will affect the students positively. However the scales for determining the player type in the literature related to games and the questions are about these games. Thus answers given by the students, especially for those who do not play games, may not accurately reflect the player profile of the students. To be solved this problem, it is aimed to address the learner profiles where students can express themselves better at school or in classroom and to make the selection of game elements that will motivate students through their learning profiles. In this context, the pilot study was applied to a total of 474 students from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. According to the findings obtained from the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes, a scale with a Cronbach's Alpha value of .935 was developed, which consists of eight factors and 35 items. After that, the player type scale has been translated into Turkish. The developed learner profile scale by researchers and the player type scale translated into Turkish were applied to 197 people playing games. The averages of eight profiles in the learner profile were calculated for each participant. In order to determine the relationship between these calculated averages and the whole learner profile scale, the average results of eight learner profiles were calculated as percentages. The percentage distribution of the participants' player type was calculated by multiplying this number by the coefficient of the question. Thus, the player types of the students determined on learner profiles without using player type scale.
