This study aimed to determine the content of the mission statements of the hospitals in Turkey and to make the comparison based on the hospital ownership structure, hospital type, education and accreditation status of the hospitals. A total of 1037 hospitals were examined. Content analysis was used to compare the mission statements of the hospitals. It was determined that there is mostly information about the institution in the hospital mission statements. The second most common component in hospital mission statements was found to be organizational philosophy and values. In this study, it was determined that the target market component is the least used component in hospital mission statements. Significant differences were found in some elements of the hospital mission statements according to ownership, hospital education level, hospital type, and accreditation variables. According to the main results of the research, it can be suggested that the hospital mission statements should be handled in a way that includes more mission elements / components rather than general statements and should be announced to the public. It may be suggested to add the statements regarding epidemics, especially COVID-19, to the hospital mission statements. Hospital management can be supported by strategic management experts and academicians.
