Transnational resonance spaces of antisemitism: the adaptation of National Socialist propaganda formats in the Turkish context - the case of Milli Inkilap

Özet
This study investigates the transnational transfer of racialized antisemitism from National Socialist Germany to the early Turkish Republic via Cevat Rifat Atilhan. Utilizing ‘transnational resonance spaces’ and ‘cultural code’ concepts, it analyses how Millî İnkılâp replicated Der Stürmer’s sensationalism and visual dehumanization. A central dichotomy is identified between peripheral biological racism and official humanistic state reason, evidenced by the recruitment of Jewish scholars and Atatürk-signed bans on Atilhan’s propaganda. Ultimately, while eroding during wartime, early Republican identity remained fundamentally inclusive, positioning Atilhan’s efforts as peripheral.
