The structural results clearly indicate that 2-(2-thiazolylhydrazono)indan- 1,3-dione, C12H7N3O2S, exists as a keto-hydrazone tautomer in the solid state, The indandione and thiazolylhydrazone groups are connected by a C=N bond and the H atom bonded to N1 refines with a normal temperature factor, The entire molecule is essentially planar, There is a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond between the hydrazone H atom and a carbonyl O atom, The asymmetric unit contains two molecules which have a 'local' screw relationship.
