Abstract

Background and Aims: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of different gutta-percha solvents on the maximum dynamic torque and apically directed force during the removal of canal fillings using Reciproc Blue R25 instruments.

Materials and Methods: Twenty four acrylic resin blocks were prepared with Protaper F2 files and obturated with sealer and Protaper F2 gutta-percha. They were divided into three groups based on the solvent use: non-solvent, chloroform, and eucalyptol groups. A specially designed device compatible with an endodontic motor was used to measure the torque and vertical force exerted by Reciproc Blue R25 files during the removal of canal fillings. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis (p≤0.05).

Results: Solvents groups showed significantly reduced maximum torque and force values compared to non-solvent group (p≤0.05). There was no significant difference between eucalyptol and chloroform for both parameters (p≤0.05).

Conclusion: The use of solvent reduced torque and force generated by Reciproc Blue R25 files.
