Özet

This study discusses demographic transition process in Turkey within the past-present-future connection, and presents how this transformation took place among sub-population groups. The study attempts, in view of the experiences of different countries, to find an answer to the question of if there is a need for a new population policy. The impact of the change in the fertility rate on demographic processes such as the population size, age distribution and on social and economic processes, such as education, work life, social security, health, have been examined based on the population projections made by the United Nations considering four fertility scenarios. The study argues that in order to keep fertility at least at the current level, measures should promptly be taken, and specifies the measures required to this effect.
