Abstract

Cisplatin (CP) is one of the most widely used chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of several human cancers; however, it has several side effects such as nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, ototoxicity that limits the use of CP. Some studies have shown that CP increases free radical production and thereby oxidative damage. These findings indicate that oxidative stress plays an important role in CP toxicity. On the other hand, many studies have shown the preventive effect of antioxidant agents on CP toxicity. In this review, the importance of oxidative stress in CP toxicity and the preventive role of antioxidants has reviewed.
