Özet

The contemporary art education has four dimensions: art production, aesthetics, art history and art criticism. In the content of art history, there are also life stories of artist, as well as art media, art styles and periods. The knowledge of art history provides children to evaluate and interpret artifacts from their own point of views, by this way they develop their own aesthetic understanding. Art history also takes children to a journey to the humankind. Art history is a powerful vehicle by telling real artists' "real life stories" to children that provide them "real life lessons". Under the light of that idea, this study aims to investigate the present state of illustrated children's books where the visual artists' were portrayed. The education of those artists', their art styles, the socio-cultural and economic conditions in their time period that they influenced their arts, their families and close friends, and the role of incidents happened in their real life, and the messages given to children were explored in the study. To do that, twenty books were analyzed. In this descriptive study, the document analysis was used. The content analysis were employed.
