Özet
This chapter argues that a closer examination of Uyghur polar questions reveals a systematic divergence from several widely assumed properties of polar question particles. Drawing on original examples as well as descriptive sources, I show that Uyghur -mu is not strictly obligatory, does not associate with focus, does not require symmetric marking in alternative questions, and does not define a rigid clause-final boundary. Instead, its distribution is best characterized as being sensitive to finiteness and the predicate, while remaining largely independent of information-structural prominence.
