Abstract

The design, fabrication, and integration of compliant structures using soft materials have gained increasing importance in recent years due to the advantages they offer in robotics and sensing applications, such as flexibility, safe interaction, and low cost. In this study, the performance of low-cost, flexible soft strain sensors, fabricated in a laboratory environment, in detecting and measuring various applied strain profiles was examined in detail. The temporal and frequencydomain responses of the sensors were characterized using multiple system identification methods; the results obtained were comparatively evaluated, and the strengths and limitations of each method relative to the others were discussed.
