Abstract

Evidence based on the IR and Raman spectral features of HE(CN)(2) in twelve solvents with widely different donor strengths supports the view that increasing solvent coordination to the Hg atom leads to a progressive reduction of the C-Hg-C angle from 180 degrees. For solvents of high donor strength (e.g. piperidine) the C-Hg-C interbond angle may approach 145 degrees. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
