Nursing informatics are within the scope of health information systems. The American Nurses Association defines nursing informatics as "a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and processes data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. Nursing informatics systems are being used clinical practice, management sevices and education areas. Nursing informatics systems provide assessment and monitoring of the patient, preparation and evaluation of care plans, budgeting, control and supervision of the staff, preparation, implementation and evaluation of training programs. The purpose of this article was to determine the benefits in terms of patients, communities, health professionals and health care system, and make a discussion of the research and the applications of nursing informatics systems.
