Özet

Literacy skills lead the skills that improve the quality of life and active participation to social life of people who have special needs. However, acquisitition of literacy skills are not limited with the formal reading education. Acquisitition of literacy skills which consists of automatic use of reading and writing skills in different settings for specific purposes, is a facilitating element for both normally developing children and children with special needs in social life. Besides formal school education, through the opportunities offered at home, adoption of an approach based on school - home colloboration plays a major role on the development of literacy skills. This paper discuss the conceptual content of literacy skills and family involvement in the literal development of normally developing children and children with special needs in the light of related literature.
