Spasticity is an upper motor neuron lesion component caused by the velocity of exaggerated tendon jerks and muscle tonicity characterized by excessive tonic reflexes. This typically occurs following multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain injury (trauma and other causes), spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy and other disabling neurological diseases. Clasp knife phenomenon and flexor spasms are associated reactions that accompany spasticity.
