Özet

Reading comprehension is a basic skill necessary for individuals to access, evaluate, and use information. Especially in the field of science, it is very important for students to be able to understand texts and comprehend scientific processes. The low achievement level of Turkish students in reading comprehension and science in international assessments is an important problem in our education system. In this study, the effect of implementing a model integrating science and reading on reading comprehension achievement of sixth-grade students was examined. In the experimental group, science and reading were integrated with an inquiry-based learning approach, while traditional teaching methods were used in the control group. The findings revealed that students in the experimental group, especially those with high levels of parental education and a supportive home environment, showed significant improvement in reading comprehension achievement. These results suggest that developing science and reading skills together can increase students' academic achievement and that parental involvement plays an important role in this process. This study provides teachers, educators, and policymakers with effective strategies to improve students' reading comprehension skills.
