Abstract

Joint cartilage pathologies are popular and developing field of orthopaedic joint surgery due to their limited and controversial healing capacities. Succesfully applied new treatment methods were noted as microfracture, osteoarticular autograft, mosaicplasty and autologous chondrocyte implantation for cartilage regeneration to date but since each methods have some limitations a gold standart therapy was not found yet. Although most of these techniques improve joint functions, they seem inadequate to obtain natural structure and composition of the cartilage. Since then, current studies are focused on gene therapy, mesenchymal stem cells and tissue engineering.
