The purpose of this study was to determine to similarity and differences in practice by comparing Chi-square, the Mantel-Haenszel and logistic regression techniques, and differential item functioning (DIF) determination techniques. The study was carried out with a sample of 3345 students selected from approximately 600.000 students who Participated Selection and Placement Examination for Secondary Education Institutions in 2003. The data of study was composed of students' answers to science sub-test in Selection and Placement Examination for Secondary Education. The DIF analysis was carried out with gender groups only. The results of the study indicated that these techniques provided many similarities and differences.
