ARCHTHEO ’20, XIV. International Theory and History of Architecture, İstanbul, Turkey, 6 - 07 November 2020, pp.270-274
This paper aims to
present the reconstruction implementations implemented after the 1958 fire in
Bursa, as a case study on application of a popular term in architectural
conservation theory. Firstly, the definition of reconstruction is given
according to related charters and regulations concerning heritage conservation.
Then, the process of reconstructions applied within the west part of HCC in
Bursa was presented in detail, according to the Conservation Council’s
Decisions that were taken from 1955 to 1964. Finally, reasons and results of
these reconstructions are discussed within the framework of national and
international declarations concerning conservation of cultural properties,
during 1960s.
