Özet

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an immune-mediated interstitial lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of organic or chemical antigens, commonly in occupational settings. Although often less severe than other respiratory dise-ases, HP can progress to irreversible pulmonary fibrosis if not diagnosed early. Diagnosis involves a detailed occupational history, high-resolution computed tomography, pulmonary function tests, bronchoalveolar lavage, and immunolo-gic assays. High-risk occupations include farming, bird breeding, poultry proces-sing, wood and textile work, mushroom and compost handling, and healthcare. Notably, exposure to metalworking fluids (MWFs), previously considered rare, has become a prominent cause of HP. MWFs may contain bacteria, fungi, myco-bacteria, and dissolved metals, triggering immune-mediated lung inflammation. Preventive strategies—early recognition, antigen avoidance, and workplace mo-nitoring—are key. Systemic corticosteroids may help in acute stages, but long-term prognosis depends on exposure duration and timely intervention.
