Özet

Bronchiolitis is a common lower respiratory tract disease in infancy. There are still many conflicting data about the effectiveness of the different treatment regimens. In this study, 90 patients under two years of age who had mild and moderate bronchiolitis were randomly selected. One of the following treatment regimens was given: humidification, nebulized albuterol, intravenous prednisolone, nebulized albuterol with intravenous prendisolone, nebulized racemic adrenaline, nebulized budesonide. Clinical score and oxygen saturation were determined at the begining and at every hour during the treatment. At the end of the study, patients from the different groups were compared with regard to the improvement time, need of additional treatment and hospitalization, elevation in oxygen saturation and complications. The improvement time in the albuterol and racemic adrenaline groups was shorter than in all the other groups. In the racemic adrenaline group the need for additional treatment and hospitalization was less, and the increase in oxygen saturation was statistically significant. Based on these results, we conclude that racemic adrenaline is an effective medication for treatment of mild and moderate bronchiolitis.
