It is important for dietitians, to practice their profession effectively and reliably on the basis of ethics and codes of conduct; to increase the reliability of dietitians, the institution/employer where the service is provided, the university where they received education, and to protect and improve the health of the service recipient. In many countries, especially in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, legal professional regulations ensure that individuals have access to a competent dietitian who performs effective and reliable practices in his/her profession and that the employer employs a competent dietitian. Within the scope of professional regulations; recognition and protection of the professional title, professional ethics and codes of conduct, basic and improved professional qualifications and competencies, definition and standardisation of the scope of practice, as well as the provision of continuing professional education and monitoring of competence. In these countries, after the competences of dietitians who have completed their undergraduate education are accepted by the relevant institutions, they can start their professional practices, their practices are monitored and their professional competences are decided to be continued or rejected. The European Federation of Dietetic Associations and the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations have also published standards and road maps on the subject. This article aims to present examples of countries that have realised a professional competence monitoring system and to present the necessary standards to be established in our country.
Diyetisyenlerin mesleklerini etik ilkeler ve davranış kuralları temelinde etkili ve güvenilir olarak uygulaması; diyetisyenlerin, hizmetin sağlandığı kurumun/iş verenin, diyetisyenin eğitim aldığı üniversitenin güvenilirliğini arttırması, hizmet alıcısının sağlığının korunması ve geliştirilmesi açısından önemlidir. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, Birleşik Krallık, Kanada, Avusturalya başta olmak üzere birçok ülkede yasal mesleki düzenlemelerle bireylerin mesleğinde etkili ve güvenilir uygulamalarda bulunan yetkin bir diyetisyene ulaşması, işverenin ise yetkin bir diyetisyeni istihdam etmesi sağlanmaktadır. Mesleki düzenlemeler kapsamında; meslek unvanının tanınması, korunması, mesleki etik ilkeler ve davranış kurallarının, temel ve geliştirilmiş mesleki yeterlilik ve yetkinliklerinin, uygulama kapsamının tanımlanması ve standardizasyonu ile sürekli mesleki eğitimin sağlanması ve yetkinliğin izlenmesi yer almaktadır. Bu ülkelerde lisans eğitimini tamamlayan diyetisyenlerin yeterlilikleri ilgili kurumlarca kabul edildikten sonra mesleki uygulamalarına başlayabilmekte, uygulamaları izlenmekte ve mesleki yetkinliklerinin devamına veya reddine karar verilmektedir. Avrupa Diyetetik Dernekleri Federasyonu ve Uluslararası Diyetetik Dernekleri Konfederasyonu da konu ile ilgili standartları yayınlamış ve yol haritaları oluşturmuştur. Bu makale, mesleki yetkinlik izlem sistemini gerçekleştirmiş ülke örneklerini aktarmak ve ülkemizde de oluşturulması son derece gerekli bu sistem için mevcut koşullarda nasıl bir yol izlenebileceğine yönelik öneriler sunmak için derlenmiştir.
