Public Librarians' Needs for in-service Training in Turkey.

Özet

The goal of the study to find out why the public librarians need for in-service training, the extent of their needs, qualifications and what kind of an in-service training they need. For the collection of data, a questionnaire was applied to the librarians, vice-managers and managers who graduated from librarianship departments of the universities and working for the public libraries in Turkey. The research universe consists the graduates of Department of Information Management and work as librarians, vice directors and directors in the public libraries of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. 243 questionnaires were sent to the managers and librarians out of 323. In the research, 106 librarians, 37 directors / vice directors are exemplified out of the total number of 143 graduates of Department of Information Management. The questionnaire was applied to all subjects in January and February 2008. The findings of the study indicate that the professional librarians and managers who work in public libraries needs in-service training.
