This article focuses on the verb tari-, which is one of the two fundamental terms of Turkish agricultural terminology, and explores its derivations, which are tarin- "to cultivate (the land)", taril- "to be sown", tarit- "to scatter seeds; to sow the field, to have the field sown; to scatter", taritdur- "to make the field sown" and tarimsin- "to appear to be sowing seeds". A comprehensive corpus review has been conducted to identify the usage of the verb in Turkish texts using runic letters as well as in Turkish texts found within Buddhist, Manicheist and Islamic contexts. The study also discusses the verb within the context of modern Turkish. In this way, the article aims to demonstrate the usage areas of the tari- verb on the one hand and the significance of linguistic material in Turkish agricultural research on the other.
