In this research, the relation between the electron density vs height data acquired from the IRI-2012 and the spectral efficiency of an OFDM system operating in the HF channel is investigated. First, characteristics of the HF channels and Vogler-Hoffmeyer method for wideband HF channel simulation are discussed. Then, interference caused by using short cyclic prefix is formulated. Lastly, simulation results are provided in order to demonstrate the relation between the IRI data and the spectral efficiency, delay spread and interference.
